Most of the time bad design doesn’t cause injuries – just offense, confusion, or maybe worse – no reaction at all. When it comes to designing an environment things change, even things as simple as paving a road. People in Pontypridd, Wales have been injured because the pavement was retiled, and it’s hard to see where the kerb is.
“The tile pattern at street level is very similar to the loading bay – four inches below – and many pedestrians are unable to see the drop.” More than 20 people have been taken to hospital since the paving change.
Maybe it’s time to get out some paint – Design matters!
