This morning I was called by a company who will remain nameless (you have to do something clever to get mentioned in my blog, not stupid). They were offering a service that I could probably actually have used, and I was definitely willing to listen. Although I was trying to ask questions I was just being read a sales script. When I would interrupt, the very nice lady at the other end of the phone would hesitate and say things like “I’ll answer that in a moment, first let me tell you about…” and go straight back into the script. Ugh. What they were telling me above everything was that I didn’t matter much to them, and people were not their first priority. Why would I give them my business?
I understand that sales people need facts, but give them the facts, and give them the training to have proper conversations. I have added their number to my contact list – that way I’ll know not to answer next time!
