Think or Do (pick one)

I just came across a great piece of writing called “The Thinking Mindset vs. The Doing Mindset: Pick One (And Only One)”, by Art Markmam. (Professor of Psychology and Marketing at the University of Texas at Austin and director of the program in the Human Dimensions of Organizations. ) This article puts into words so simply what many of us fail to do each day. We try to think and do at the same time – and that often takes longer, and gets much more labored results. This is the reason you’ll find me in a coffee shop with my little notebook – it’s thinking time.
“You’ll find that some days, the ideas come fast and furious. The days when you just want to sit at your desk, stare up at the sky and just let your mind wander.
Other days, though, you really want to get moving. You’re antsy and you can’t really focus on any one thought. Instead, you are most efficient if you are getting things done.”
Now do yourself a favor, grab a cup of coffee (or tea), find a spot where you won’t be disturbed for a few minutes and read the rest. (via 99U – a site I just found and will be visiting often.
