say it…. with words…

These made the designer and the minimalist in me smile. I’m not planning a wedding anytime soon (I’m one of those very happily married people) but may have to use this idea for other things… From MissCake (via WeddingGawker)

You can’t sit here…

by aileen on January 10, 2012

Copywriter and Art Director, Annie Chiu came up with this idea for Nike – how  to make people run – take away their places to sit.

It made me smile, although I’m sure some people won’t find it as clever.

New ideas for old containers…

by aileen on November 7, 2011

Dekalb Market in Brooklyn is on my list of ‘must visits’ next time I’m in NYC. Ore Design (you may recognize their name from the milk crate farm I wrote about a few days ago) worked on phase 1. A joint venture of Uban Space and Youngwoo & Associates this market was built to encourage entrepreneurship, ensure quality, create community and consider sustainability. What great criteria to meet for any project.

Setting criteria to live up to is an important part in any ongoing project, don’t sell yourself short.

Milk Crate Farm

by aileen on November 1, 2011

I found this on Core77′s site – and loved it.

This is next door to Tom Collicchio’s new restaurant RiverPark. A “stalled” lot, a place where they started building but had to stop due to the economy, these are common in most cities at the moment was used as a temporary farm.

My favorite thing about this is how they came up with the concept :

“Thinking of the necessity of portability for the farm, Kosbau (the designer from Ore design) said, “We started with, ‘Ok, how much can a person carry?’ and we went from there. I think we sat down, and almost immediately thought of milk crates.”

If you start with identifying the right problem to solve, you have a much better chance at a great solution.

Read the whole article here and ask yourself how does this apply to what I’m doing?

Another great solution from Ore Design is coming up soon.
