I have always had a soft spot for Rockaway. When I was much younger I read a book set there, and still imagine spending a summer writing there (and of course there is surfing). When Superstorm Sandy hit that area, Rockaway was hit hard. Now it’s fighting back and has new signage (designed by Pentagram) – Each sign depicts a photo taken from the location of the sign. They serve to remind everyone that whatever devastation took place, much of the natural beauty still exists. It’s a sign of beauty. I plan to visit next time I’m up that way… and if anyone has a cheap rental there for a month or so let me know. (via Pentagram)
