My latest crush – a little notebook

If you go to some people’s houses they have enough canned goods to last them through a hurricane, alien invasion, or apocalypse of some kind. It makes them feel safe. I don’t judge, I have the same need – mine is for notebooks. If, by some strange turn of fate, notebooks stopped being produced I would be OK for the next few years. Not to mention the one’s I make myself (see the esty store link over there)>>>>>
Yes, I do have an Ipad, a powerbook, and endless technology, but nothing beats doodling an idea on the pages of a little notebook. I have gone through many phrases of notebooks but at the moment I’m in love with Field Notes. – they are perfectly sized. Small enough to fit in a pocket or small bag and to get the pleasure of starting a new notebook (that’s always a good day) on a regular enough basis while being big enough to draw and write-in easily
I love this company and everything they do, so I signed up for the subscription – over the year I will be automatically sent 30 books – every quarter I will be running to the post box! (This is not a paid endorsement, they are just a really cool company).

November 3, 2011 at 10:16 amLike you, I cannot live without my notebooks. I use the single subject spiral bound ones. I get them each year, at Walmart in August or September, whenever they’re on sale for 25 cents a piece. I probably have enough to last a few years also.
My husband always asks, “Do you really need those?” and I reply, “Absolutely, I only have 40” (or some rediculous number) “left”. He just smiles and shakes his head.

November 3, 2011 at 5:03 pmI know that ‘smile and shake the head move’ – I see if from my husband all the time, and I’m not telling him about your comment. He would love it if I bought 25c ones from Walmart ! – There are far worse things to be addicted to.

November 4, 2011 at 9:03 amLove those Aileen – will give them a go when stocks get low on my current favourites (Coat Pocket sized lined notebooks from Paperblanks).
I was given my first paperblanks book by a speaker called Marie Moser, who came to see me speak at a PSA event. One of my tips on creative thinking was “Capture your genius – always carry a notepad”, and she came up afterwards and gave me one of the three new ones she’d bought that week!
Love the blog – Kenny

November 4, 2011 at 9:07 amKenny- I love this story. I started collecting my ideas when I was a graphic designer and just continued when I became a speaker. It’s great to hear of other speakers doing the same thing. I hope our paths cross, I think we would get along!!
