Should I gopro?…

I have a slight obsession with timelapse video at the moment and am crazing one of these cameras – I first wanted one while watching the x-games last year (yes I’m a 47 year old women who loves the x-games). I think I may really believe that if I own one of these I’ll start doing extreme sports (you never know) or it may just be that putting something so well built into the hands of someone who thinks differently may create some great things. The new model (hero2) does both Ten 11 MP photos per second burst and one 11 MP photo every 0.5 sec in Timelapse Mode and those details excite me. It also (by all acounts) takes great video and sound. Is it too early to write to Santa? Find out more on the gopro website or amazon.

May 8, 2012 at 7:35 amI just bought a Swann Freestyle on Woot. (Have also read they are available at Costco.) Same basic cam as the original GoPro, but it COMES WITH the screen AND a remote (a remote isn’t available on any GoPro yet). Still shoots 1080 vid, though stills are only 5MP. It was less than HALF of the cost of a GoPro and a screen “bacpac” accessory. ($145 vs $320)
From the reviews I checked out, color is a lil’ bit brighter on the new GoPro. Meh, I can bump the colors in post, and for online video, not terribly concerned myself. Also, sound on both, when in the “protective”/underwater casing, completely sucks. Well yea, it’s in a plastic box. Sound on the Swann outside the case, seems ok so far (I’ve shot very little, as I just got it last week).
SO… if you’re hardcore vid/photo nut and the tech side of your image is super important, AND you have an extra $200 to spend, then GoPro. Myself, I’m glad I found the Swann.
But there’s nothing like getting a cool lil’ POV camera to realize ya don’t really do anything that cool or extreme. :/ *sigh*

May 8, 2012 at 8:15 amNik – I will check it out, thanks for the information. I’m most interested being able to to the timelapse so I will have look up the specs – I’ve been carrying Flip cameras around for years for speaking and training events and love it – but I’m ready to play a bit more and who knows maybe I’ll do something extreme one of these days (I’ll put it on the blog if i do)

May 8, 2012 at 8:24 amIt will do time lapse. Every 2 seconds, with other settings up to 60 seconds.
Have fun with it! I bought it for skate(board) vids, elevated (on a pole) photos/video and random backyard fun with my 4 year old.
