so far we have had guesses of Xalamander, Xoloitzcuintli? A mexican hairless dog?, Xylophone and two for Xerus (including my mother who didn’t leave a comment here or on Facebook, but emailed me :)) – there is no way of knowing for sure, but i love that there are kids everywhere learning this.
The animals and letters are actually part of a song “A is for Apple” (I know this because I have a 2 year old). The song normally says “A is for Apple, A, A, Apple”. When it gets to X, it says “X as in Fox, X, X, Fox”.
I think I would prefer an alphabet song that could incorporate “X as in Xerus: North African Ground Squirrel, X, X, Xerus: North African Ground Squirrel…”
Whilst there is no doubt the educational merit of wood that fits together, there is something a little disturbing and (dare I say it) unnatural about these animals frolicking together. What is that elephant doing to the dolphin for example? But hey, maybe it’s just me.
